Our first Tremaine of the 2022-2023 season is officially down in the books! Tremaine was amazing, and the team did FANTASTIC! While it was late nights and early mornings, it is always fun to watch the girls in their element.
Our Tremaine weekend started on Friday night and consisted of our soloists. Our studio had three soloists in total, one including my daughter. All three of them placed in the top three and qualified for Orlando Nationals. Our current senior even placed in overalls, with her self-choreographed piece. How cool is that?!?!
This was the first time I had seen my daughter’s solo full out, from top to bottom, in her costume. It was AMAZING! She looked great and performed beautifully. However, I’m not sure if "beautifully" would be the correct word to describe the level of sass, considering it is a jazz piece, but we’re going with it! Act confident and no one will question you, right?!
Our Friday night ended super late, with us getting to bed close to 2:00-3:00 a.m. Which I’m sure was hard on my daughter considering she had to be ready and downstairs for a long day of classes and competition the next morning by 7:00 a.m. I don’t know how she does it, I don’t know how any of the girls do it. I know i slept until about 10:00 a.m. and was pretty bummy the rest of the day, ha!
My daughter has a duet with our studio’s senior (who we have dubbed our bonus child, because she’s that awesome hahaha, hi Zoe!) and they competed their duet on Saturday evening. It’s probably my favorite dance of the season so far. It just fits them so well; they move great together, and it’s been so special to watch their relationship/bond grow and watch them challenge each other during the choreography process... again this piece was choreographed by Zoe herself. They placed in the top three and got the special judges' ovation award. How cool is that?!?! Proud mom moment right there.
I always find it interesting, these two... I swear they are "soul sisters". They both met several years ago at a summer dance camp and clicked. I remember my daughter coming home the first day talking about this girl "with black curly hair" and then hearing about how they buddied up for the week. I remember thinking to myself "oh good, she’s going to have someone a little older to look up to", then she moved before the season started. I remember asking my daughter about where the girl was and telling me she wasn’t at the studio during the season and how disappointed she was. I don’t think either one of them really remembers because, as I said, they were both younger.
NOW, here we are 5 years later, and it happens AGAIN. Same girls, same connection, different location. I keep saying, these girls were meant to be friends. If they can meet, basically as strangers, and have the same connection, not once but twice, they were meant to be in each other’s lives. She really is like the big sister that she never had. They goof off like friends, but when it’s time to be serious and get down to business, or when my daughter is in a funk or mood... it’s always Zoe who can manage to talk some sense into her. There is a level of respect there that’s great. Anyways, enough gushing over their friendship, back to our Tremaine weekend.
Saturday began bright and early for them with warmups and classes. The Seniors also had their scholarship auditions. That means they had to learn the audition material and audition with it the same day. Both girls made it as finalists, which was so exciting! My daughter has never made it this far in the auditions at Tremaine, let alone as the little fish in the Senor room. Her coach/studio owner said she thinks she was shocked because she didn’t know how to react to it. I was over the moon happy for her.
After classes were over for the day, we had a little break to eat and relax before it was time for competition again. The team competed a total of 5 dances. Everything they put on stage placed in the top three, which is great! They also received a high-point award. I couldn’t be prouder of them all. What made the moment even more special is our graduated senior was there. She choreographed one of the pieces this year and she was there to see it performed on stage for the first time, and it placed so well. Such a special moment to witness.
Sunday completed our weekend with morning classes, the studio owner and I went and watched the Tremaine mini class do a super cute performance, then the closing show and awards. During the award part of the closing show, our senior received a scholarship which was super exciting. The TDF team’s mindset is when one of them wins, they all win, which I love. Then we had the loooong drive home.
I was so ready to be home and go to bed. I literally slept with my heating pad on my back. If I was sore, I can only imagine how tired and sore my daughter was. She slept the whole way home, which made for a boring passenger, but it is what it is. I did manage to get her to wake up for some ice cream, her favorite food group ha!
Well, I think this is going to conclude my blog for now. I’m still in recoup mode...and I still have some costumes to finish hahaha! Thanks again for reading and see you next time!
